How do you find the domain? I really don't understand how to find the domain given the context of the question... If I was just given variables, it'd make sense, but it's simply confusing. x^2-5x+8 + x^2-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please, someone help.

hartnn (hartnn):

is the question, really this : \(x^2-5x+8 + x^2-4\) ?? if so, its a polynomial and domain of polynomials is all real numbers.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

might be a typo, check if the question is not:\[\frac{x^2+5x+8}{x^2-4}\]or maybe its written in your material as:\[{x^2+5x+8}~\div~{x^2-4}\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if so, then think about what math people hate to divide by .... and see what makes the bottom equal that value

hartnn (hartnn):

yeah, then i makes sense to find the domain...
