One way is so solve for sin(t) and cos(t) and use the fact that sin^2(t)+cos^2(t)=1. You will need to check the implications of the bounds on t as well.

Because we know how sin(t) is related to x and how cos(t) is related to y. The pythagorean identity here allows us to have an expression is x and y which is what we are looking for.
