so why cant vanadium send its 4s electrons n attain a half-filled config?
why is inert pair effect not seen in the elements of d-block? to be more clear.. why higher oxidaton states are more stable in the d-block elements?
its not in the ionic state im speakin of..in the ground level config y cant vanadium jz rule out afbau's principle and send its electron pair to d-sub shell jz like chromium does?
the energy level difference between the 4s and 3d orbital in case of vanadium is too high .which wont make half filled configuration. In case of Cr the energy level difference between the 4s and 3d is very low so 4s electron can jump to 3d orbital making half stable electronic configuration.
V ground state configuration -3d34s2 Cr ground state configuration-3d54s1 ur question is why cant V show 3d54s0 configuration right
the answer is same as i mentioned in the above
thanq for ur reply sir:-)
the energy level difference between the 4s and 3d orbital in case of vanadium is too high so the electrons from 4s cant move to 3d orbitals to attain half electronic configuration but in case of Cr the energy difference between the 4S and 3d are small hence electron from 4s jumps to 3d and attain the d5 electronic configuration!!
