Which has a higher vapour pressure? Water or mercury? Why?

Absolutely mercury! because it easily evaporates in room temperature. but water, because of hydrogen bonding, evaporates in 100 centigrades.

@chmvijay I think you are saying vice a versa. the one that goes more easily to vapor phase, has more vapor pressure. mercury goes more easily!

I think water has a higher vapor press...what I dont understand is why.. Vapor press of Hg is 0.2729 mmHg and that of water is 658 mmHg at 100 C

mercuarty has to be evaporated as atom i.e the interaction between atoms is high so high energy needed to evaporate Hg.hence has low vapor pressure. and also density of the water is less compared to Hg i think this may be reason why Hg shows low vapor pressure

yaaa obviously at 100 °C water starts boiling as shows high vapor as a result high vapor pressure compared to mercury which has boiling point of 360°C,

I think that the mercury has a hight temperature to evaporate ................. because the last has a density more than the water ! ! !
