ABIOTIC factors are NON-LIVING factors. When we're talking about decaying logs, we're talking about LIVING, and organic things. Two facts here: 1. Logs were once part of trees. Trees are living. 2. BACTERIA are what causes logs to decay. And bacteria are also living. LIVING factors are called BIOTIC factors.
