Find the percent of each school day (based upon a 24-hour day) budgeted for the following activites. Find to the nearest whole percent. Show all of your work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sleep 7.5 hrs.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

School 8 hrs.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Homework 3hr. Bible study 1/2 hr. Chores 1 hr.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so far you have 20 hours listed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the formula for calculating the answer for all of these questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well after you add those together you get 20 hours total, so it would then be simplifying the ratio or 20:24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would I do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

reduce it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I would take 20:24 and then take th first on 7.5hr....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no? you would simplify, meaning get it in simpliest terms...start by dividing each by two . 10:12, then reduce by two again and keep going till you no longer can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you reduced 20:24 to 10:12 then you try reducing again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, because you can still divide by two, so it would then be 5:6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And you cant reduce anymore because you can't reduce 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then what? It says we need to find the percent. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide them you would do 5 divided by 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.83? I'm still not sure..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yupp!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats right, what you put. except for percents you move the decimal two places to the right so it would be 83%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That isn't right.. The answer is 31% because for number 1. 7.5hr. I have the ansewers I just wasn't sure how they got this..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh! i thought you said to add them together, nit each individual one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry. That's ok. :) I still could use help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright, well its basically set up as the other, you would divide the 7.5 into 24 to get the decimal and then just move the place of the decimal to the right two spaces.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok Thank you!! Is that what you do for all of them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yupp! im sure there is some equation somewhere for it but if you always divide the first number by the second you will get it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much! :D
