Match each inequality with its graphed solution: 1) 4x – 7y < 5 2) 4x – 7y > 5 3) 4x – 7y < 5 4) 4x – 7y > 5 I will put the options to match them with in 4 diffrent reply things

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Why answer 1 and 3 are the same...? may be you forget something...

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Just try (0,0) in the inequalities...then you can match them with graphs... ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 and 3 are diffrent look at the less than/greater than signs... and how do you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry I looked at that wrong let me redo that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1) 4x – 7y < 5 3) 4x – 7y < 5 - it is supost to have the line under the simbol 4) 4x – 7y > 5 - same thing with this one

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Those inequalities which have = are belong to graphs which have lines... ok...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that made no sence at all to me..sorry

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Two graphs have purple dots and the other two have a purple line instead...got it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (cyber405):

4x-7y>=5 4x-7y<=5 These two belong to graphs which have line...do i need to explain why? the other two inequalities belong to graphs which have dots...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so I get that..so how do I tell which one with line it goes to?

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Now if you put (0,0) in one of them for example in this one... 4x-7y<5 then you have 0<5 you can see it's right and it means this inequality belong to graph which include (0,0). OK?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont understand that...Im realy sorry

OpenStudy (cyber405):

No it's ok..

OpenStudy (cyber405):

if you look at your graphs you can see two of them consist the point (0,0) in their area which is colored...ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right i get that

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Now if you put a point in the inequality you have two answers... 1.you get a right inequality like 0<5..then it means the point should be in the area of graph. 2.you get a wrong inequality like 0>5...then the point should be out of the area of graph... OK?

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Put (0,0) in the inequalities and see what happens...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok let me try that

OpenStudy (cyber405):

If you have any question...don't hesitate...i'll explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is what I got 1) 0<5 2) 0>5 3) 0<=5 4) 0>=5 Is this right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (cyber405):

right...now you can see 0<5 and 0<=5 are correct and 0>5 and 0>=5 are not... so first two are belong to graphs which have (0,0) in their area (colored area) and the other two belong to graphs which haven't (0,0) in their area (colored area).

OpenStudy (cyber405):

if you rewrite one of inequalities like this 4x - 7y =5 and draw it, then you get the boundary line in graphs... if you want to know which inequality goes to which graph you can choose a point that is in the area of one graph and it's not in the area of other one (here i choose (0,0))... then if the answer is correct it means the point should be in area of that inequality... It's that easy...

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Sorry for not explaining good enough... i tried to help you to understand the matter...
