Anyone?

5. What is a basic difference between a sporophyte and a gametophyte? (1 point)A sporophyte is a reproductive structure while a gametophyte is not. A sporophyte undergoes sexual reproduction while a gametophyte undergoes asexual reproduction. A sporophyte is part of the diploid phase while a gametophyte is part of the haploid phase of the plant life cycle. A sporophyte is much smaller than the gametophyte.

@InYourHead

OpenStudy (flacalol):

im going wth A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not leaning on A.

OpenStudy (flacalol):

oh.. ok sorry.. lol :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I took botany a few years ago. Give me a little time? I gotta research, and let the info come back to me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. I don't remember EVERYTHING I learned about plants. But I think I've got enough information to help you with this question. ~~~~~~~~~~~ The GAMETOPHYTE and the SPOROPHYTE are two different phases, of the plant's life cycle. The SPOROPHYTE phase is DIPLOID. What that means is that is has the normal number of chromosomes, in each cell. The GAMETOPHYTE phase is HAPLOID. That means that it has only half the number of chromosomes, in each cell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@InYourHead so is it C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A sporophyte is part of the diploid phase while a gametophyte is part of the haploid phase of the plant life cycle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uh huh. I'm leaning on C.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

oh man, alternation of generations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aaronq what does that mean ^^^

OpenStudy (aaronq):

alternation of generations is the cycling of sporophyte and gametophyte forms of the plant

OpenStudy (aaronq):

of a plant*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aaronq so you think its C. also right?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yep it's definitely C i remember it because gametophyte sounds like gamete which is haploid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh cool way to think of it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks alot!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no prob !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great job everyone! i just took the quiz, and it was C. Also i read over it all and the explanations of why it was C was really helpful! Great job and thanks a lot everyone!

1. Which of the following is true? (1 point) (0 pts) Plants have adaptations that minimize light absorption. (0 pts) Plants require less water on sunny days. (1 pt) Most plants get the water they need from the soil. (0 pts) Plants take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and do not use oxygen. 1 /1 point 2. If plants need oxygen for cellular respiration, then why do plants release oxygen into the atmosphere? (1 point) (1 pt) More oxygen is produced during photosynthesis than the plant needs for cellular respiration, so the plant needs to release the extra oxygen. (0 pts) Plants need to collect more oxygen from the atmosphere because photosynthesis does not produce enough oxygen to meet their needs. (0 pts) Plants need to release oxygen into the atmosphere so more carbon dioxide can enter the plant for photosynthesis. (0 pts) Plants release oxygen into the atmosphere because the release of oxygen prevents the evaporation of water. 1 /1 point 3. Which of the following is the most important process specific to land-dwelling plants? (1 point) (0 pts) production of photosynthetic pigments (1 pt) conservation of water (0 pts) exchange of gas (0 pts) presence of cell walls

4. What would have most likely occurred if plants had not begun to live on land? (1 point) (1 pt) Animals also would not live on land. (0 pts) There would be no green algae in the oceans. (0 pts) Animals would not undergo cellular respiration. (0 pts) There would be no carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. 1 /1 point 5. What is a basic difference between a sporophyte and a gametophyte?
