OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dude what is that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a metting i made

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well thanks for the link, but I don't think its gonna help me get this problem done :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

il help u what isit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I attached a file at the top. I don't really get how to figure out the ones that have a variable at the beginning of the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me clarify, the ones that have a variable and a number. I know how to graph them using y=mx +b, but don't seem to get any of those answers.

OpenStudy (cyber405):

As you can see both of the lines have a single root...now try and see which ones have the same root...ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, they cross each other at one point. and tha point is (-5,0)

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Yes...so which one is the answer...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know, that why I posted the question. :)

OpenStudy (cyber405):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you help me? @cyber405

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Why not? Do you know how to get the root of these equations...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Umm honestly I don't remember.

OpenStudy (cyber405):

The root of a linear equation is the point which they cross the X line... In this point Y=0...and if you put Y=0 in the equation you can get the root... ok? Now try and see if you can find the answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can someone jsut explain how to find this, then I will check back with them when I get the answer, and see if its correct? I learn best of someone shows me how to do it the first time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both lines intersect at (-5,0) A little mental arithmetic will confirm the first group as the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Holy cow I feel dumb. You jsut plug in the coordinates?

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Y = -x + 4 .... Y=0 .... 0=-x + 4..........x=4 (root) Y=-8x+11......Y=0......0=-8x+11........8x=11.......x=11/8 You should find the roots like this....ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok gotcha.. Thanks bro.

OpenStudy (cyber405):

Don't mention it...
