Find the area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Do you see two trapezoids there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

It looks like two trapezoids. So, you calculate both trapezoid areas and add them up together. To calculate a trapezoid area, you use the equation where you add the bases together and divide that by 2. Then you multiply that by the height.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So use the area formula twice. What are the bases of the trapezoid on the left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 and 23?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Yes. So add those together, multiply by the height and divide by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mertsj okay i did that on both sides

OpenStudy (mertsj):

To get the total area, add those two together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i got really bug numbers and they are to high to be right

OpenStudy (mertsj):

23+5=28, 28 times 18=504, 504 divided by 2 = 252. Area of left trapezoid = 252 23+13=36, 36 times 14=504, 504 divided by 2 = 252. Area of right trapezoid = 252 252 + 252 = 504

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i got really big numbers..weird okay well i got it now...thank you! @Mertsj
