Writing 8 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am looking for help with in-text citation for an online dictionary. I have a signal phrase; "Merriam - Webster's online dictionary defines kindle as..." Do I need a parenthetical, and what should it include if so? Thank you...for MLA.

OpenStudy (zale101):

http://www.easybib.com/ this website is very helpful with MLA formats. If u still need help, ask me. Ok :)

OpenStudy (zale101):

Just type an article, a book, or a magazine, and it will transfer it to an MLA format.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I am familiar with bibmaker, but my problem is not with the works cited entry; that I understand. My concern is over the need (or not) for a parenthetical in-text. For instance, "Dr. King once said, '...." (23).

OpenStudy (zale101):

Yes you need, but you first put the authors last name and then write the page number. E.g, (King 23). You put these after you copied down the phrase.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Very well. So for an online dicionary, even if I name the source in a sgnal phrase, I still need to include a parenthetical. Like this? Merriam- Webster's online dictionary defines kindle as..." (Merriam-Webster.com).

OpenStudy (zale101):

You dont need to put a parenthetical in an MLA format, you put parenthetical only inside the essay. I think what u did was right, you can put (Merriam-Webster.com) on the essay, only if a source doesn't have an author or the page number.

OpenStudy (zale101):

Does the Marriam Websters dictionary have in author and the page number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thinking about it now, maybe I should just take out the signal phrase. "Kindle is defined as, "..." (Merriam-Webster.com).

OpenStudy (zale101):

or (Marriam-Webster dictionary) do't write (.com)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! I think I have found my answer!

OpenStudy (zale101):
