If the Sun became cooler but kept the same size, would it emit more ultraviolet light or less ultraviolet light than it does now? Why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

temp dec... Energy dec.. Boltzmann's law what has less energy? UV or IR? a bright star looks-->? a dull star looks->?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

UV ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

UV is more energy... thats why bright stars seem violet and dull stars look red..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a candle looks red outside and bluish near the wick.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would emit less uv light? if it became cooler?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[E\propto T\]->Boltzmann's law

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and if the surface temp. didnt change but it grew larger in size.... it would emit more energy each second?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is slightly different

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1363640972166:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same total energy but over different surface areas

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im only given an option of more or less energy each second...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

size is same in the problem though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your problem statement says that the size remains same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no if the temperature didnt change but the sun grew larger

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Power changes but total "E" remains same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what I thought but I am only given the option of emit more energy or emit less energy
