How would the plants in a specific environment be impacted if there was a sudden drop in the amount of bacteria present in that area?
It can go both ways. Plants can benefit or suffer from select bacteria in the area. So, if there is a decrease in bacteria, then plants may or may not benefit or suffer.
Bacteria- two types autrophic - (prepare their own food esp. the nitrogen fixing bacteria, Azetobacter) are very crucial since they trap atmospheric N2 and bring it to soil. N2 is an important ingredient for plant life. Heterotrophic- > can be of two types 1) symbiotic -> depend on other organisms (hosts) for their survival and they help the organism in some other way . (e.g. Rhizobium -> help plants to absorb water and minerals from soil) 2) parasitic -> they are completely dependent on the host and do not help the host in any way. The host may even die. depending on which type you are removing, you have the answer!
