Would engineering include welding?

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

It could.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

Well, an engineer is a designer, builder, and one who maintains. Welding is a type of building or designing technique. Additionally, welding falls under engineering because that field involves the ability to design and build a product from machines, engines, or any structure.

typically engineers are the guys in the office telling the welder how to make a certain part. So if you are asking if engineers typically do welding, the answer would be no, but if you are asking if welding is at all involved in the engineering field then yes, engineering would include welding

Hey guys, I am an under graduate student and pursing Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Now I had a subject called Utilization of Electrical Energy in which im studying about welding and its types and uses. I even had a lab work for it. Im really getting fun in lab while welding materials.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

well, I did ask this question once..... well, as an engg. it is an advantage that he/she should know the basics of some universal terms used in the field. And knowing, them makes an engg. to calculate and examine things beyond his theory papers in his practical session.

I wouldn't consider myself a head-on "Engineer," but, I work on fine tuning and restoring/fixing vehicles. A Mechanic, you could say. Anyways, I do a lot of engineering relating to monitoring RPM output and horsepower and such, as well as cutting and welding body pieces together. So, there's an example of a field of Engineering that could include welding.

@TrashMan914 @KeganMoore ..well, i'm an undergraduate in INSTRUMENTATION and CONTROL ENGINEERING......well, i deal with welding and soldering of various electronic devices and level gauges too..... So, without these how could i be a perfect engineer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@koikkara Is Instrumentation and Control Engineering an actual major? No offense or anything, I've just never heard of it, and it sounds really awesome. I wish my school had it; I'm in Mechanical Engineering, and the coolest thing we've done so far is take apart an electric screwdriver to look at it's gear train. But I'm really interested in instrumentation design. As far as welding, I've done it before but not in college, but I guess I would say engineering could include welding, but you don't have to be an engineer to do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just asked if it could be included in engineering because there is not a metal work & manufacturing group

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need to figure out which tech schools are close to Pinconnign Michigan. i will be moving there this summer and would like to go for welding and since there isn't a a group for metal fab i have to ask in here
