2(x + 5) > 8x – 8
What are you trying to ask? Is it to solve for x?
2(x + 5) > 8x - 8 2x + 10 > 8x - 8 {used distributive property on left side} 2x > 8x - 18 {subtracted 10 from both sides} -6x > -18 {subtracted 8x from both sides} x < 3 {divided both sides by -6 and changed the inequality sign}
@unheard use first : distributive property
\(2(x+5) > 8x -8\) \(2(x) + 2(5) > 8x-8\)
Now solve that.. @unheard
@BIGDOG96 did it correctly, right @mathslover ?
=2(x+5)>8x-8 =2x+10>8x-8 =10+8>8x-2x =6x<18 =x<3
Well @unheard Yes. But I would prefer you not to consider direct solutions or answers
Can you explain the distributive property part to me? @mathslover
@BIGDOG96 and @Shreshta007 Please don't post direct solutions or answers. We are here to help the users step by step and let them engage themselves in the question. For more info : http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct
Yes @unheard : \(a(b+c) = ab +ac\)
Or I would write that as : \(\large{a(b \pm c ) = ab \pm ac}\)
For eg: \(2(3+x) = 2(3) + 2(x) = 6 + 2x\) Similarly can you solve for 2(x+5) ?
Ohhh! That makes more sense. Thanks :)
Then solve by using that method I explained you in previous question
You're welcome @unheard
