5Y-2=28-Y?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

combine the like terms ....add y to both sides here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

TO -2 AND 28??

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

5Y-2=28-Y +Y +Y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK CAN YOU JUST SOLVE THE PROBLEM LOL :(

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

see how this cancels out the y's on that right side?? no I wont just solve the problem.....it's only a couple steps.... add y to both sides 5y - 2 = 28 - y +y +y 6y - 2 = 28 add 2 to both sides here 6y = 30 what does y =?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

correct :) see you can solve it yourself...just need to follow the steps :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-_-

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

lol what? it's true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, where does the 6 come from?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

when you add y....to 5y.....you get 6y.....1y + 5y = 6y right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[5y-2=28-y\]add \(y\) to both sides (Addition Property of Equality):\[5y\color{blue}{+y}-2=28-y\color{blue}{+y}\]\[6y-2=28\]add \(2\) to both sides (Addition Property of Equality):\[6y-2\color{blue}{+2}=28\color{blue}{+2}\]\[6y=30\]divide both sides by \(6\) (Division Property of Equality):\[{6y\over\color{blue}{6}}={30\over\color{blue}{6}}\]\[y=5\]
