Solve the system of equations by graphing -1/3x + y = –1 y = 4 + 1/3x

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

OK? So what is the part you are having a problem with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so wat u have to do is draw out both lines on the same graph and where they intercept, then u have solved for x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, and those are the other options.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

If they cross at one point, 1 sol. Same line = infinite sol. Parallel = no sol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay.. well its not A then

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, says infinite but they are parallel. LOL. So that one was easy to get rid of. If you graph the lines or check them against those, you will know pretty quick.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wats the difference between A and B ? O.o

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The name.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol ok i didnt c the name

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Same reasoning applies to D. They are saing infinite but showing no sol. So that will kill a second choice. All you need is to see which of the last two the lines actually make.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Just a side note: Why are all these lines important? Well, when you get past calculus, they have a neat class called linear algebra that has t do with just about every science and it uses this stuff heavily. Just thought I would mention it.
