OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need some help with conjugating verbs in the preterite and imperfect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Adone ___________ (ir) tu en ese momento?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*Adonde

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought it would be fuiste but it's wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I do not know Spanish

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thanks anyways.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Preetha

@Ashleyisakitty @ClassyAnonymous @cmp411 @Chooch146 @Darrius @dmezzullo @FlaCaLOL @Hoa @hedyeh99 @ipa @joannaxox3 @jbluver @jon29256 @joker123456 @LucyLu15 @lilhudsonnn @mathstudent55 @magenxoxo @some_someone @SnuggieLad @satellite73 @uri @yoyogators

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can help, what is your verb?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ir

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know, yo fui

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tu fuiste

OpenStudy (anonymous):

el/ella/usted fue

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nosotros fuimos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

vosotros fuisteis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ustedes/ellos/ellas fueron

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yo tú él/ella/usted nosotros/-as vosotros/-as ellos/ellas/ustedes @SavannahMiller27 , YES?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That was preterite, and no @some_someone that is in the present form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what? I never said anything I just put the yo tú él/ella/usted nosotros/-as vosotros/-as ellos/ellas/ustedes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is the imperfect form: Yo iba,tu ibas,el/ella/usted iba, nosotros ibamos, vosotros ibais ellos/ellas iban

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hedyeh99 you put those too? I have not put any verbs yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@InYourHead

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sentence is: Adonde ___________ (ir) tu en ese momento? I tried fuiste but it says that it's wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hedyeh99 if you have a problem with me, then PM.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is ibas

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hedyeh99 you should explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because, they are asking for the imperfect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The imperfect tense (el imperfecto) is one of the several past tenses in Spanish. It is used mainly to describe past habitual actions or to set the scene in the past

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SavannahMiller27, well @InYourHead is the BEST SPANISH teacher, but unfortunately he is offline.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The imperfect can generally translate to be what someone was doing or used to do.It sets the background knowledge or scenery for a story.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@some_someone , I speak Spanish fluently

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just tried ibas and it doesn't work either...I'm confused I thought it was ibas to begin with.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It should be ibas >.>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@InYourHead explains thoroughly BTW @hedyeh99 I speak Spanish fluently also.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok @some_someone , do you have a different answer then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got any ideas other than ibas and fuiste? Bc it's saying that neither of them are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Irias? Accent mark on the second i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i'll try it @hedyeh99

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Preterite yo -------- fui tú ------------------ fuiste él/ella/usted ----------------- fue nosotros/-as ------------------------ fuimos vosotros/-as ----------------------------------- fuisteis ellos/ellas/ustedes -------------------------------------------- fueron

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks :), but I was almost certain it was imperfect, funny it didn't work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so irias with an accent on the second i doesn't work either...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Imperfect yo -------- iba tú ------------------ ibas él/ella/usted ----------------- iba nosotros/-as ------------------------ íbamos vosotros/-as ----------------------------------- ibais ellos/ellas/ustedes -------------------------------------------- iban

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it should be fuiste..or vas a ir...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SavannahMiller27 do you see both IMPERFECT and PRETERITE?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@some_someone Yes I see it. I've tried both fuiste and ibas and it says that it's wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okaii what did @hedyeh99 tell you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To try irias with an accent over the second i. Tried that and it's wrong too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The preterite is a "perfect" tense because it reports events viewed as completed within a finite time frame (a change, a definite beginning or end at a specific point). An "imperfect" tense conveys duration, progression, incompleteness (a state, something experienced for some time) So, first you need to see the difference between IMPERFECT & PRETERITE. Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Adone ___________ (ir) tu en ese momento? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- So based on what I gave you as 'definition' of PRETERITE and IMPERFECT, which one do you think we are looking for, (PRETERITE or IMPERFECT)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Adone fuiste tu en ese momento? Adone ibas tu en ese momento?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I'm stumped. I'm assuming, from your post, that our choices are to either use the Preterite, or the Imperfect. Is that right? If "fuiste" really isn't the answer, then I have no idea what it is. We're talking about a single moment in time. That's why we should be using the Preterite form.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@InYourHead but were my conjugations right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't you speak fluent Spanish?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I believe the user was to either use the Preterite, or the Imperfect. And yeah I do speak fluent Spanish.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just wanted your opinion also :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You mentioned, through earlier messages, that you're in Spanish 2. And even so, you do ask quite a lot of Spanish questions, for someone who speaks Spanish fluently. So cariño, let's drop the act. Tú no me engañas. I don't mind you asking questions. Pero las mentiras me molestan. ~~~~~~~~~~~ And, yes, you're right. Our choices, are "fuiste" (preterite) and "ibas" (imperfect). That is what I understand.
