OpenStudy (matt6288):

Hey can anyone help me please..? So I'm typing a essay and I need some quotes from A River Sutra that reflects love. I don't have the book and for some weird reason i cant find any online!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i probably can... if its what i think

OpenStudy (matt6288):

yes plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its overall message is the uniting power of "love" dont perceive that word as OH I LOVE YOU or wow i love that shirt - it conveys a much bigger meaning when used regarding "life" and power etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is your question/s

OpenStudy (matt6288):

In the Novels A River Sutra and The Little Prince they idolize love as the most powerful elemental force that can be created and expressed. Although they knew very little of the understanding of love towards the end of the novels they came to a increasingly better understanding of the verities of love. so this is what I'm talking about now i need a quote that shows what I'm talking about is true. srry im terrible at explaining myself..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i undertstand because I study buddhism and the law of attraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the quote doesnt ahve to be from the book? if not ill give you a couple great ones in a moment

OpenStudy (matt6288):

this is what my teacher wants State, support and represent theme. it (or they) must also link to the themes or theme from A River Sutra and one from The Little Prince.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A. state the overall theme B. support that overall theme by using something like a quote or real life example etc that is analagous to the theme of the book c. explain the connection between your examples of the theme in itself to the theme of the book(how the book expresses that theme)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that what ur assignment essentially is? ha

OpenStudy (matt6288):

perfect!

OpenStudy (matt6288):

cool so i can talk about anything as long as my theme is love! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well hold on ahahah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u know sutras meaning right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

essentially, its like thread, river sutra sorta sums it up ! love flows like a river connecting all beings/ groups/ etc despite their various cultural, personal life, religious beliefs, experiences, so on

OpenStudy (matt6288):

k got it (: ill type it up and show u it when its complete

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem il leave this up .... think of this assignment like an onion....overall theme...then dig wihtin applying what you say to support your "thesis" to your teachers demands

OpenStudy (matt6288):

I can choose a quote. I like all of them. “When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” “This is what we call love. When you are loved, you can do anything in creation. When you are loved, there's no need at all to understand what's happening, because everything happens within you.” “One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.” imma use a quote and a life example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the thesis ytour using?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure htose are schematic (relative speicfically) to the notion of universal love the is the uniting factor or THREAD(sutra) between the oposing cultures

OpenStudy (matt6288):

how about true love destiny love.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule. Buddha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"eternal rule" = everlasting/ prevalent/ overall

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Love is the affinity which links and draws together the elements of the world... Love, in fact, is the agent of universal synthesis. THIS WOULD BE PERFECT

OpenStudy (matt6288):

what does Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love mean? that the only thing that can break the hatred is love?

OpenStudy (matt6288):

omg perfect!

OpenStudy (matt6288):

my thesis has all the elements and love would be the thread that holds them together!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin ---- love is the affinity aka love is the harmony/ relationship/ association ----

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(breaking it down for u ok

OpenStudy (matt6288):

“I have inside me the winds, the deserts, the oceans, the stars, and everything created in the universe. We were all made by the same hand, and we have the same soul” ( ). In the novels and short stories read in class I have come to an understanding of how Faith, Spirit, and Religion are looked upon. It is a sort of peace, happiness and everyday life that we wake up to each morning to help keep us living with a positive attitude. They all strive in completing their destiny.

OpenStudy (matt6288):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which links and draws together the elements of the world --- unites the components/various aspects---- in relation to your book---- elements symbolic or analogous to simply diverse cultures (that may appear oposing and possess oposing beliefs) SO IT UNITES THOSE DISSONANCES

OpenStudy (matt6288):

“Love is the affinity which links and draws together the elements of the world... Love, in fact, is the agent of universal synthesis” ( ? ) <--what do i put in there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Love in fact is the agent of universal synthesis! tadah bam overall theme but (obviously you cnanot directly say that without sourcing) --- LOVE(the sutra-thread/ flow) in fact-- the truth of the matter-- is the agent of ( GUIDING FORCE) universal synthesis ---- oneness

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that breakdown make it more relative to the overall message of universal love as a unifying force or did i confuse u

OpenStudy (matt6288):

confuse me.. can u tell me it in simple terms.. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the entire novel connects fully by "threading" each unique person or story to one another

OpenStudy (matt6288):

In the Novels A River Sutra and The Little Prince they idolize love as the most powerful elemental force that can be created and expressed. Although they knew very little of the understanding of love towards the end of the novels they came to a increasingly better understanding of the verities of love “Love is the affinity which links and draws together the elements of the world... Love, in fact, is the agent of universal synthesis” ( ? ) In the novels and short stories love is the most difficult to understand and relate to. this is where im at and idk what to say next lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the quote i gave you: Love is the affinity which links and draws together the elements of the world... Love, in fact, is the agent of universal synthesis.-- is analagous to how the book connects seemingly different situations by one thread AND iif you are writing about love you must portray that you understand this universal concept of it versus the socially constructed notion of "I LVOE YOU I HATE YOU I LOVE THIS DOG I LOVE MY HAT

OpenStudy (matt6288):

so Santiago couldn't have love until completing his destiny and Siddhartha had love but left to complete his enlightenment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u seem to be on a great track but what was the overall assignment thats proably gonna enable me to clearly help you

OpenStudy (matt6288):

ok so this is what my teacher wants she gave us 3 prompts. 1.What role does Faith the spiritual and religion play in the novels you read. how do the ideas reflect what you have learned about world religions? 2. Show insight into the conflicts, Character, and symbols in either the alchemist or siddhartha. Then 3 is the one with state support and represent theme.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think of love as somehting withing all of us, without all of us, connecting all of us, defining and simply unfound wihtin all of us....the universe, regardless of religious views and beliefs, was created by whatever whoever nothing ever (u understand i think) out of love, thus all walks of life may it be a plant or an ant or the dalai lama have a common thread: love...if your assignment is not about love specifically then this is simply anaalagous to the overall theem of the book: the common thread between seemingly different essences

OpenStudy (matt6288):

want to see my whole essay?.. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH so ok i never read the book i know it well but never fully read it... i cant confidently tell you these things if i dont genuinely know the theme you chose and if its what ive been catering to..yes...(practicing to tutor anyways ha) i might loook at it in ten min and then analyze it/ help you out

OpenStudy (matt6288):

she gave us the option of righting them separately or together.

OpenStudy (matt6288):

Honestly The Alchemist was a great book!. I was the first to finish it in class lol. I checked it out and the next 2-3 days i finished it haha.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he Narrator's Story The loose collection of stories that comprises Gita Mehta's A River Sutra are connected by three things: the Narmada River, the theme of love, and the narrator's inability to understand the various tales of the human heart he hears ( I just read this online to get a better summary) YOUR theme/ essential POINT aka thesis is the theme of love i c

OpenStudy (matt6288):

i can talk about the book easily.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great book

OpenStudy (matt6288):

i read that online to. didnt help much.. cuz i didnt read it all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i just had to clarify it for myself haha no worries

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the theme one is pretty easy simply bc its layed out constructively

OpenStudy (matt6288):

oh ok lol. does this website have a voice chat?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk i went on it to find a quick fix for history assignments for an online course since im home for a semester and what not...i apaprently have much more interest in your assingment!

OpenStudy (matt6288):

lol. do u have a skype?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the bok the secret?

OpenStudy (matt6288):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm... yu could easily write the one on theme bc of the outline setup BUT if this is something you wanna get done more efficiently, its probably better to choose option 2 unless youve dug into this a lot...

OpenStudy (matt6288):

im so lost right now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you cant really support your claims without examples from the book and if you dont ahve the book ya know... hard to do

OpenStudy (matt6288):

yea i guess..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

found a great source

OpenStudy (matt6288):

In the Novels A River Sutra and The Little Prince they idolize love as the most powerful elemental force that can be created and expressed. Although they knew very little of the understanding of love towards the end of the novels they came to a increasingly better understanding of the verities of love “Love is the affinity which links and draws together the elements of the world... Love, in fact, is the agent of universal synthesis” ( ? ) In the novels and short stories love is the most difficult to understand and relate to. Like in the Alchemist, Santiago learned and mastered to listen to his heart. That is what is missing from the narrator Gita Mehta understanding of what love is. If you cant listen to you heart you fail to express it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start over- ignore most of what i told you because this willb e more clarifying--- i was digging to deep into the unversal idea of love, but now i see the books theme of love versus that

OpenStudy (matt6288):

im like winging this haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dont delete what u have, keep it aside, youl probablyw ant to use that quote especially at the end of your paper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A River Sutra, by Gita Mehta is a set of stories within stories set around the Narmada river in western India. The river, which is one of the five sacred rivers of India, draws a varied group of characters to its banks, all seeking solace and healing from troubled lives. The stories are held together by an unnamed narrator who has retired to a remote government rest house on the banks of the Narmada as a sort of vanaprastha or detachment from the world. He’s not very good at maintaining this detachment: curiosity about those who visit the rest house or cross his path in his forest wanderings is constantly drawing him back to human contact. Two stories are told to him by the local mullah, and the other three are told by people he meets. A wealthy Jain renounces his wealth and becomes a sadhu only to find that he cannot give up the capacity to love. A music teacher in an unhappy marriage finds solace in teaching a blind boy to sing, only to see him killed by a jealous rival. A young executive from Calcutta is bewitched and sent mad by a spirit woman in the forests of Darjeeling. An old courtesan searches for her daughter, kidnapped by bandits. And a Hindu aescetic rescues a child from a brothel and teaches her to be a musician. Ultimately all the stories are about love in all its forms: lust, madness, redemption, sacrifice, care and sorrow. The narrator, a childless widower of an arranged marriage with no children, has little experience of love, and is learning throughout the book what he has missed. ---- althought i know the book and the author i did not know the actual stories/ characters--- read this for a base

OpenStudy (matt6288):

is it good though!?

OpenStudy (matt6288):

so the first paragraph. people to to the river for healing. That healing is to find love?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aspects of story Tension: A sense of tension is created in the final story the Song of the Narmada. The narrator begins to feel dissatisfied for the first time with his lifestyle after the arrival of the archeologist Professor Shankar. Then a mysterious woman arrives and sings about the different powers inherent in the river Narmada. Climax: The climax of this section is reached with the return of Professor Shankar and the revelation that he in fact is Naga Baba. The narrator realizes that this mysterious woman is in fact the child who was rescued by Naga Baba from the brothel. Resolution: The resolution of these stories is reached in some of the final words of Professor Shankar. We learn how he states that a man must go through many different rebirths in order to truly become a man. It seems that he is still struggling to attain that fullness of perfection embodied in the river’s powers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its good yes you could edit it if you want later but it makes sense , ill look at ti again after i send u this pellet from the internet excuse my language

OpenStudy (matt6288):

its hard to take all this in lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"The power of love to heal and also to cause tragedy forms the main theme in every story told to the narrator in this novel. There is a great deal of tragedy associated with the theme of love in the stories. The narrator describes how the people he met have been like water flowing his life to teach him something. All of the stories speak about the quest for love in the lives of very different types of people. Some of these people find true love, while other stories paint a tragic picture of how people let themselves be destroyed by love. The river Narmada becomes a symbol of the immortality of love and its huge capacity to give life."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u now need to get a general summary or idea of each story so you can refer to them when you make the claim(thesis statement and point of paper that you are supporting until the end) ; without evidence your words are not going to be graded as strong, even the most well written paper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its an EXTREMELY complex book!

OpenStudy (matt6288):

so i need quotes from sutra and little prince?

OpenStudy (matt6288):

"The power of love to heal and also to cause tragedy forms the main theme in every story told to the narrator in this novel. OpenStudy (matt6288):

it is complex, if i liked it i might have read it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yaah idk little princes tho

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (matt6288):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know how to help you with this bc neither of us knwo the actual hard tangible stories of the book ...i can analyze the summary andw rite a book review but that is not the same as a pper on a theme and supporting it..at all ...i think oyu shoudl do prompt 2....

OpenStudy (matt6288):

that quote is exactly what im trying to say haha.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you read siddhartha

OpenStudy (matt6288):

i already did 1 and 2. she wasnt all of them haha either together or separate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its what ur trying to say and could easily be re written but regardless u ahve no fact to back your words up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooooooo

OpenStudy (matt6288):

this is my essay!!! (not complete and edited.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it have to be long

OpenStudy (matt6288):

Matt Hiedo Mrs. Web American Literature 2 April 3, 2013 Faith, Spirit, and Religion “I have inside me the winds, the deserts, the oceans, the stars, and everything created in the universe. Since we began reading and discussing religion in class I personally was interested in learning how another very religious individual across the world lived his or her average day life. In the River Sutra the narrator speaks with mystery and missing pieces about where you live your life happily: “Without desire there is no life everything will stand still become emptiness. In fact sir, be dead” ( ). I love the meaning behind this powerful quote. It gives everyone a connection and a thought to what their desires might be. It inspires me to want to continue working hard at school to follow my destiny to see what God has written my future to be like. It is a path full of happiness if achieved; of course the path is full of roads chosen by you, so if incorrectly chosen, you can be led onto a dark path where you so much desire to get off. However, if you never stop working to make your dreams reality even after witnessing death’s ghosts you will taste salvation and peace. Before tasting the holy waters of salvation you need Faith. In The Alchemist the man who speaks to Santiago on the bench who he thinks is an old bum tells him finding your destiny is not a walk in the park. He foreshadows his future if he chooses to follow it, and he tells him that in his moments of regrets and sorrow he will wish to give into the idea of not finding the treasure given to him; he will forever desire the idea of what would have happen if he chooses to follow the path the omen has given, and what God has waiting for him. “The boy didn’t know what a person’s ‘destiny’ was…it’s what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young knows what their destiny is” (22) once he tells this to the boy he reviled his true identity to the boy as King Melchizedek. The boy was shocked as he stared at the solid gold plate armor he was wearing. He tells the boy it is at the Pyramids of Egypt; after the exchange of some of the boy’s sheep. Then he reveals to him that finding it will be difficult and challenging unless he follows the omens provided by the Soul of the Universe. So at this point of the story Santiago begins his adventure and never looks back. Evidently it was his dream to travel, but at the risk of his sheep he took the path that the universe has set for him. By putting faith into something you love and want. Your soul will do anything in its power to achieving it and the world will conspire to help. It is something people must believe in to succeed successfully. Life is a difficult thing to understand. You set a course of how you will like to live you life someday. You work hard to make that your dream come treu and then you either achieve it or fail. Thats what my biggest fear is, to fail and not to have achieved. Which is the wrong way to look at it because the fear of failing is how you fail but if you make everyday a positive one you will prevail. “When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.” ( ) To live your live happily and recognizing the good things that happen every day you wont fail to become what God has written for you. Its part of life, you fail or succeed, and somedays you either live or die. April 2, 2013 there was a assembly at Poway High School it was a eye opening event about a young girl who died from a tragic school shooting. It was the biggest school shooting in all of history. Her name was Rachael Scott, she was a very passionate kind hearted person who really looked at life in a positive way. Her dream was to make people respect each other and be good to one another. After the assembly when they spoke about her dairy's and what her dream was to make a chain reaction for everyone to connect. I realized something, Which I felt in my heart wasn’t right. That because of her death now, she is being recognized and people are remembering who she was and what her dream is. They said that she always thought she was going to die and that in a way her destiny was to die and create this chain reaction with everyone in the world to connect. Love, in fact, is the agent of universal synthesis” ( ? ) The power of love to heal and also to cause tragedy forms the main theme in every story told to the narrator in this novel. OpenStudy (matt6288):

eh well ur prob in college so this isnt much for u haha. For promp 3 maybe a page half?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK haha truth your notwriting a college essay

OpenStudy (matt6288):

this is going to be calculation “At a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie” ( ). Racheal Scott died because it was her destiny. Her dream was still achieved but if she didn’t die at the shooting, some point in her life another tragic incident would have commenced and she would have died. That is the world's greatest lie. Not know what will happen or how it will, it is not up to you wither its a happy or sad live. That at some point in life you wont be in control that God is going to take action and what happens is what happens.

OpenStudy (matt6288):
