Multiply and simply the expression (5b-3)(6b-5)

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so far I have 11b^2-25b-18b-15

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

11b^2-25b-18b+15 +15, not -15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have to combined -25 and -18b?

hero (hero):

(5b - 3)(6b - 5) = 5b(6b - 5) - 3(6b - 5) = 30b^2 - 25b^2 - 18b + 15 = 30b^2 - 43b^2 + 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What I don't understand is how -25b and -18b have to have b^2? when we already have a b^2, doesn't seem that the polynomial is correct?

hero (hero):

-25b and -18b are like terms. You have to combine them. Did you not see the steps I provided above?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did, okay makes sense so in the end it's 30b^2-43b^2+15

hero (hero):

Correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay gotchya!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when finding the product it is the same thing?
