how do you solve for x in the equation x(-4x-9)=-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try multiplying x to (-4x-9) and equate everything to zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got -4x^2-9x+2=0 but im having difficulty solving the quadratic

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

You could use the quadratic formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=\frac{ -b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{ 2a }\]here your a=-4, b=-9, and c=2 Just plug in the number, and in the end you'll get two values of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK THANK YOU for the formula! thats what i was missing:)

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Use the discriminant to determine if it'll factor

ohhhhh, ehehehe you're welcome
