Someone should really help me! (: I typed up the question already.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x+y=1 -3x+y=-9 I already subtracted the bottom equation from the top one. I just don't know what to do next

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply 1 of them by -1 that will make it so u can cancel out the y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and than?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which 1 did u multiply by -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5x=10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya so then u divide both sides by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

of 5x=10?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya so u go 5x/5=10/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so y =2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no x=2 cuz 5x/5 cancels out to x and 10/2 simplifies to 2 soooo x=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what does y=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so plug in x=2 to the 1st equation so it would look like 2(2)+y=1 and then u solve that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so x=6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... so 2(2)=4 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah y = 2 so 4+2=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no y doesnt =2 its 4+y=1 -4 -4 y=1-4 y=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did u get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup!! good job!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Amen! Haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do ya understand how to do it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool
