Decide whether the following is a simile, metaphor, or neither. under veils of white lace simile metaphor neither

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well it isnt using like or as so its not a simile and its not directly saying its something. so i would say its neither. I may not be right but i gave it my best shot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Neither....(simile and metaphor compares things: no comparison listed)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A simile is comparative, a metaphor is suggestive. This fragment is not a simile, but whether it's a metaphor or not depends entirely on context. If the observer is describing a frozen waterfall where perhaps rock walls are hidden "under veils of white lace", then the fragment would be a metaphor. If the observer is describing a wedding dress where a bride might be draped "under veils of white lace", then the fragment would be neither simile nor metaphor.

neither
