Factor out the greatest common factor then simplify if possible (8z-3)(z+4)-(8z-3)(z-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wonder... the greatest common factor is the factor that appears in both terms.... ab + ac you factor it out like this a(b + c)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(8z-3)(z+4)-(8z-3)(z-3) \] \[(8 z^2+29 z-12) - (8 z^2-27 z+9)\] \[(8 z^2+29 z-12) + (-8 z^2+27 z-9)\] \[56z - 21\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Instead of factoring I just foiled each side then subtracted and added.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cant 56z-21 be simplified?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah it does, \[7 (8 z-3)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Factoring is easier? (8z-3)(z+4)-(8z-3)(z-3) (8z-3)[(z+4)-(z-3)]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 7(8z-3) correct or just 8z-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's the first.^ because you were asked to simplify.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it is 7(8z-3
