the image formed by a plane mirror is a virtual image, explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a plane mirror ALWAYS forms a virtual image

OpenStudy (anonymous):

reason: focal point of a plane mirror is at infinite!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

explanation: if you take a compass and set it's radius to infinity, you get a straight line... similarly if you draw a radial plane in two dimensions with infinite radius, you get a perfectly flat surface... now coming to the matter, a real image is formed by focussing a beam or ray of light onto a screen with inverted image of an object... assume that the principle focus of the mirror is infinity, as in the two dimensional plane, which will produce the real image in infinity... so as we cannot (or too lazy) to focus an image at infinity, we call it virtual image... Kudos
