Using a rectangle as a whole, represent the following problem, include the steps and the answer. 1/3 + 2/4

5/6 i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think, first you find the GCF of the two denominators, which is 12. Multiply the numerators by what the denominator used to get to 12, so 1/3 turns to 4/12, and 1/2 turns to 6/12. Then add both to get 10/12, and simplify to get 5/6. Hope this is it, unless I'm mistaken.

but I don't understand the rectangle part.
