how do you solve a radical expression?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so like for example ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um 54sqrt(2a^16) + 24sqrt(2a^16)

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

can you rewriting this using just exponent sqrt(a^3) = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh, what?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

will be a on exponent ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, a is an exponent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use wolframalpha.com

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, whats that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, nevermind. thanks

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so you have got is right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

HAH YEAH, THANKS

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

54sqrt(2a^16) + 24sqrt(2a^16) so if you know that sqrta = a^1/2 can using this in case of your exercise too sqrt(2a^16) = (2a^16)^1/2 but you know that (xy)^a =x^a *y^a and you know sure again that (x^a)^b = x^(a*b) so this mean that in case of your exercise will be sqrt(2a^16) =(2a^16)^1/2 = 2^1/2 * (a^16)^1/2 = 2^1/2 *a^(16 *(1/2) = = 2^1/2 *a^(16/2) = 2^1/2 * a^8 = a^8 *sqrt2 hope you will can using this in case of second term too so but because there are inside radical the same terms so than what you will can going easy so for example 2sqrt3 + 5sqrt3 = ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so do you understand it my work ? than for your understanding 2sqrt3 +5sqrt3 = 7sqrt3 and this can you us it in case of your exercise too than what will get there ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um, haha yeah i got it.. thanks

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

than for your exercise will be 54sqrt(2a^16) + 24sqrt(2a^16) = (54+24)sqrt(2a^16)

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so ok good luck bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ha bye
