why is drinking urine unhealthy?. whats in it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not

OpenStudy (nathan917):

Drinking urine is definitely bad for you. See, urine contains toxins that your body is obligated to get rid of; that's why it is removed in the first place. Urine should only be drunken as a last resort, lets say if you were stranded in a desert without any water. There is no difference between male and female pee, and you should definitely not drink someone else's because their urine could contain toxins that your body is either allergic to, or cannot handle. Drinking someone else's urine can result in the malfunction of your kidneys, and/or liver.

Urine is 'sterile' in a healthy person. As soon as it leaves the body it begins to collect bacteria. In an unhealthy person, toxins are excreted in the urine. Also excreted is all wastes from the bloodstream, and anything else filtered in the kidneys. The difference there is that it is concentrated, so putting it back into the body can be bad for the kidneys. Bacteria is specific for each part of the body. Bacteria that is a normal resident of the urethra isn't necessarily safe for being in the upper regions of the body. For instance, bacteria in the gut is not safe to be in the lungs, and will cause infection then disease.

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

Drinking urine is not unhealthy, but immoral and unethical. Urine consists of excess waste that the body can not digest, or utilize. Sometimes, the urine does contain excess vitamins and minerals that may help if one drank the urine. Otherwise, it may not, and drinking it will not do anything better than if one had consumed nutritional foods.

Right. In essence, it is really bad for the liver.
