Find the value of k in the following figure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(3+k)= 5(5+6) 9k = 55 k=6.1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what rule are you using?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(3+k) = ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think there is a rule to answer I just distributed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but like why do you think that 3(3+k)= 5(5+6)? is it obvious from the figure? not for me so there must be a rule (or not if its incorrect)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no that's what they did in the example problem so I followed that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but teacher probably said some rule lol so if in example picture looks similar you can write that equation (in my school i had to prove all the steps lol) however you solved it incorrectly 3(3+k)= 5(5+6) 3*3+3*k=5*5+5*6 9+3k=25+30 9+3k=55

SO 15.3??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah [if the equation is correct one :D]
