Find vertices, foci and the main axis (x^2/25)+(y^2/16)=1 Center=_____ Vertices=____ foci=______ main axis=___ Im guessing this is a hyperbola? So far I have: Center: 0,0 Vertex: (x^2/25)=1 -- 25=x^2 -- x=+/-5 (5,0) (-5,0) Is that right? How would I find the foci and main axis? please and thank you!!
no this is an ellipse not a hyberbola. An hyperbola has subtraction sign in there. center is correct though. I haven't done conic sections in a while, thus I forget how to find vertices and what not, but I can draw what it looks like:|dw:1366948736661:dw
this is an ellipse
center (0,0) vertex (-5,0), (5,0) foci (3,0), (-3,0) major axis is x axis = 2a = 10
How would I find the answers for foci and major axis? can anyone explain? D:
You have a value for both a and b, right? Then... use this formula to get a new value, c. \[\huge c= \sqrt{|a^2-b^2|}\]
