how do you find the long leg of a 30-60-90 triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

R u talkin' about the hypotenuse?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, then you would do A^2 + B^2 = C^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not for a 30-60-90 triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok... Does it show a triangle or is that the problem as is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, a 30-60-90 tri is a "special case" triangle. First off, the long*EST* leg of any triangle is its hypotenuse. But with a 30-60-90, the 3 sides are often described in order of decreasing length as: Hypotenuse Long side Short side The hypotenuse is opposite the 90, the long side is opposite the 60. and the short side is opposite the 30. The ratiometric aspects of a 30-60-90 tri are such that the short side is 1x, the long side is sqrt(3)x and the hypotenuse is 2x

:-) Poor pythagoras...
