Any ideas?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
not at all
OpenStudy (jim766):
what are two points that you can see?

Go to YouTube and watch the Khan Academy videos on the equation of a line :)
OpenStudy (jim766):
use formula to find slope
x2-x1
----- = m
y2 -y1
OpenStudy (jim766):
-3 - - 1
------- = ------
4 - - 6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
4+ 6/ -2+1= 10/-2 =5
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-3+1 *

right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so is it =-1/5 or is it -5?
OpenStudy (jim766):
it is - 1/5
you did it right the first time, except you put the x's on the top
and y's on the bottom
OpenStudy (jim766):
once you have a slope all you need is a y intercept
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thats the formula you gave me... but ok. and then how do i make the equation?

OpenStudy (jim766):
oh yeah sorry.....i see i screwed that up
OpenStudy (jim766):
y = mx + b, b is the intercept, m is the slope
we can substitute the x and y from one of your points
-1 = (-1/5)(-6) + b now need to solve for b
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-11/5?
OpenStudy (jim766):
yeah can you make it a mixed number?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-2 1/5

so the answer would be y=-1/5x-11/5 ?
OpenStudy (jim766):
good now take the slope and the y intercept and put together
y = -1/5x - 2 1/5
look at the picture is the y intercept look like it is -2 1/5
OpenStudy (jim766):
y = -1/5x - 11/5
