Does a catalyst work by changing the molecular structure of the reactants and the products?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A catalyst works by reducing the activation energy of the reactants. http://www.funqa.com/chemistry/1722-1-Chemistry.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the statement would be false?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yess it will :) otherwise product cant form if it wont change the reactant or product :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its false.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It will only increase(or decrease) rate of a reaction. has no relation with reactants or products

OpenStudy (goformit100):

For Solving this Question, I would like to ask you that, do you have the detailed conception of : Catalyst

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

LOL what is this you are asking the same thing everywhere lol :)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

catalysts do alter the molecular structure of reactants, but not of the products

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

LOL it can alter the product too that's why side products will be formed in the reaction :)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

sure it can alter the outcome of the product but not it's structure
