what is the method used to separate saw dust from the mixture of iron fillings, sand and copper (II) sulphate?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

First dissolve the iron fillings , copper sulfate and saw dust in water , when you do this copper sulfate get soluble in water and iron fillings and saw dust are insoluble in water, then you filter it after filtration u have saw dust and iron fillings as a mixture on the filter paper right to this mixture you add the magnet it attracts all the iron fillings and whatever not attracted by the iron fillings remained is saw dust :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wht about the sand

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

where is sand

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

you mean saw dust??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i mean "sand" and i did write it i the q' above

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its iron fillings, saw dust, sand and copper (II) sulphate

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

but you have not yet put it in q :( LOL i have to think once again but i will definately

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its there in q'

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

put all 4 in water then CusO4 get dissolved in it and filter it and on filter paper you have 3 mixture sand, dust and iron fillings right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did this experiment act 2 weeks ago, but i forgot how separated the saw dusts. well, this is how how we separated them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1- we separated iron fillings using magnet 2- then used filtration to filtrate sand 3- then we did evaporation method to evaporate the water, leaving small crystals of copper sulphate

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

ok fine if you know why did you ask then ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how to separate saw dust

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the missing part

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

those three mixture again you dissolve in a beaker containing water and the saw dust will be on the surface of water undissolved , iron fillings and sand being haveir will be undissolved at the bottom of the beaker, then slowly filter the water surface layer containing the saw dust and at the bottom of water will be ur sand and the iron fillings you evaporate the water you will have these two mix you put magnet into this only Fe will be attracted and the rest is sand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wh t abt copper sulphate then? how did u separated this?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

put all 4 in water then CusO4 get dissolved in it and filter it and on filter paper you have 3 mixture sand, dust and iron fillings right this is what you should read first and then see the continuation for the above answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okkkkk. thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooo mmyyyy gooodddd

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what :) OMG why
