Please help me with these two. I have no idea. multiple choice!

OpenStudy (jfraser):

1) the equal concentrations of H+ and OH- ions only occurs once, in neutral water. 2) if pH = -log(H+), then pOH = -log(OH-). Plug and solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 7 for #1

thomaster (thomaster):

yes neutral is around pH 7 :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does -log stand for?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

the logarithm function, on a calculator

thomaster (thomaster):

negative logaritm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be 1 x 10-2 (-log) ?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

you need to know how your own calculator functions. the answer you get will depend on how your calculator interprets what you punch in. on mine, i type:\[-\log(1*10^{-2})\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get error

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 2 right?

thomaster (thomaster):

first type - then press the log button probably this will appear -log( then you type 1*10^-2 and then enter you can also type 10E-2

OpenStudy (jfraser):

the correct answer is 2, but you still need to know how your calculator functions

thomaster (thomaster):

wow there is 1 zero too much in last post :P its 1E-2 not 10E-2 xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks both ! @thomaster & @JFraser
