how do you factorise 8xy + 12y explanTION PLEASE

OpenStudy (jack1):

8xy + 12 y so there are 2 terms there: 8xy and 12y, so look for what is present in both terms, therefore from there what can be taken out of both terms so x... x is only present in the 1st term, so we cant factorise with that so whole numbers... 8 and 12 are both divisible by 4, so we can factorise with that so y... y is present on both sides, so we can factorise with that

OpenStudy (jack1):

so if you took the y out of both terms, you'd be left with: y (8x + 12)

OpenStudy (jack1):

and then if you took a 2 out as well, you'd be left with: 2y (8/2 x +12/2) = 2y (4 x + 6)

OpenStudy (jack1):

and then if you took ANOTHER 2 out... you'd be left with...?
