Guys can any of you find a molecular orbital diagram for chlorine dioxide (ClO2) and use the diagram to explain the paramagnetic nature of the species?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i looked and i can't find one, but basically there will be orbitals with only one electron in them, hence paramagnetic

mathslover (mathslover):

Ok can you tell me the oxidation state of O in chlorine dioxide

mathslover (mathslover):

@Timothy656 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the oxidation number of Chlorine is +4, therefore the oxidation number for O in Chlorine Dioxide is -2 if I'm not mistaken.
