sam (.sam.):

I have no idea on this topic as well :\

OpenStudy (rane):

r u serious

OpenStudy (rane):

thank u anyway

sam (.sam.):

There's an explanation here http://chemicalland21.com/specialtychem/perchem/LAURAMIDOPROPYL%20BETAINE.htm

OpenStudy (rane):

bt it doesn't really expalain why is it used in detergents

sam (.sam.):

Maybe it has something to do with the pH and buffers and zwitterions of Lauramidopropyl Betaine

OpenStudy (rane):

may be but still answer to this is very hard

sam (.sam.):

Ah, detergents have hydrophobic and hydrophilic molecular chains, the hydrophobic hydrocarbons are repelled by water, but are attracted to oil and grease. The hydrophilic end of the same molecule means that one end of the molecule will be attracted to water, while the other side is binding to oil. And zwitterions are neutral ions, just like phospholipid molecules. Do you agree?

OpenStudy (rane):

so..... how does it link to my q'

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

LOL @.Sam.

sam (.sam.):

Lauramidopropyl Betaine is a zwitterion

sam (.sam.):

These are just some ideas
