Which of the following statements are true about the crisis in Cuba in 1962? A. A U.S. spy plane photographed Soviet missiles in Cuba. B. Cuba wanted the U.S. blockade that prevented Russia from sending more missiles to their island. C. JFK agreed with his advisers who wanted to bomb Cuba. D. JFK agreed to place U.S. missiles in Turkey. E. After 13 tense days, Khrushchev agreed to remove Soviet missiles from Cuba. F. The United States, Russia, and Britain signed a treaty to test nuclear arms together.
Two of these are true. The answers that AREN'T true are -- (B) Cuba DID NOT want a blockade. That was something that the US decided to do. (C) JFK did not agree to bomb Cuba. He tried to find ways to avoid having to trigger any kind of military answer because of the players involved, namely the USSR. (D) is also false. JFK secretly agreed to actually remove US missiles in Turkey as a carrot for the USSR in removing theirs from Cuba. (F) can also be counted out -- nuclear capable countries did their own testing, and at the time, I highly doubt that Soviet Russia would have been happy to invite anyone from the US or Britain to check out their latest nuclear bomb techniques. Treaties were signed to try and limit the kind of testing done. But these three did not get into a group hug before setting off a test nuke after the Crisis. So the only answers that seem to fit are (A) and (E).
