f=c/wavelength. Please help, not sure how to calculate f. c= 3.00 x 10^8 m/s wavelength = 268nm

plug in the values you have in the formula..
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but i get a giant number, and not sure what I do after that.. i need to figure out f=____hz
OpenStudy (anonymous):
f=3.00x(10^8)/268nm
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I feel like I am missing a step or something.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you did not concert the wavelength which is on nanometers into meters..

can you do that or should i help with that??
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2.68 x 10^7 ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
10^-7?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no.....
nano = 1* 10^-9
OpenStudy (anonymous):
does that help??

im a little confused.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@boomerang285 are you there?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
where??
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I really don't understand this.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I don't get how to plug in the numbers, when I have to change them as well. 268 nm changes to meters right? is it not 268nm= 2.68 x 10^-7m?

to convert the wavelength from nanometers to meters you need to multiply by 10^-9
OpenStudy (anonymous):
nano in its number state is 10^-9.....so nm=10^-9m
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no since nano is 10^-9, it is supposed to be 2.68 x 10^-9m
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok.... makes sense, so then the equation (f=c/wavelength) has those values in it?

yes....so what do you get after you plug in the numbers??
OpenStudy (anonymous):
this is the tricky part for me.. I dont know how to correctly work it out
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it looks like this though right? 3.00 x 10^8 / 2.68 x 10^-9
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok

80.4? probably way off...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
input what you have on your calculator...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
that is not what i got..

does that help??
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes, i just didnt have the negative for the 10^-8
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh okay...you have to be careful next time.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
do you get it now??
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes, so obviously I don't put in all the numbers.. so f = 11.15?
