If a die is rolled twice, what is the probability of rolling a 5 and then a 2?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what is the probability of rolling a 5

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

any ideas?

@ChaosMageKing How many numbers are on the die?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand the whole 1/6 of rolling a 5 and then a 1/6 of rolling a 2. My issue is with the combing thing to get the probability for that sequence of events.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the two events are independent, so you multiply the two probabilities P(rolling 5, then 2) = P(rolling a 5 AND rolling a 2) P(rolling 5, then 2) = P(rolling a 5)*P(rolling a 2) P(rolling 5, then 2) = (1/6)*(1/6) I'm sure you see what to do from here

Ahh, thanks. My mind doesn't do probability well. Ironic given that I play the stock market quite well.

you're welcome
