Write the polynomial 4x^2 + x^5 – 12 + 6x in standard form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am not very good with polynomials, don't quite understand them that well.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

all you have to do is rearrange the terms in order of descending exponent so you write the term with the largest exponent then you write the term with the second largest exponent after that etc etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so... x^5+4x^2-12+6x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

close

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

6x is the same as 6x^1 -12 is the same as -12x^0 so the 6x comes before the -12 meaning that the polynomial in standard form is x^5+4x^2+6x-12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh. OK :) thanks
