Is the following statement true or false? 3/5<5/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

easiest way of figuring out...look at the decimal version of each fraction and if not then find common denominators to see which is greater:\[{3\over5}={24\over40}~~~~~~~~and~~~~~~~~{5\over8}={25\over40}\]so now look at it:\[{24\over40}<{25\over8}~?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[{25\over40}^*\]sorry

hero (hero):

And that, is by far, the easiest way

hero (hero):

Hi @yummydum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then there's Hero, lol

hero (hero):

lol, you must have tested out the method :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, actually i didnt :P

hero (hero):

Well, it's a pretty good one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and btw..i just did....found a mistake :P

hero (hero):

What mistake?

hero (hero):

A mistake you made?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you cross multiply you get \(\huge{24}\)\(<25\)

hero (hero):

Yup, but hey, still true, lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow hero....\(3\times8=18\)...gonna remember that forever lol

hero (hero):

If I were you, I wouldn't remember mistakes. They have a way of haunting you :P

hero (hero):

I probably made the mistake by memorizing someone else's mistake.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true :P i accidentally memorized \(2\times3=5\) and \(3^3=9\)...got me my first F :P

hero (hero):

Now you're posting your mistakes for everyone else to see. I'm gonna have to mute you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Guys are you not able to solve this problem? LOL

hero (hero):

We did solve it

hero (hero):

You cross multiply to get 24 < 25 True

hero (hero):

as @yummydum stated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Was joking... i solved it first Muhahaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

long done, buddy...we're actually having an after-chat which should really stop, lol :P

hero (hero):

Posting "true" is not solving. You have to explain what you did @passive13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^preach it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty sure he didn't need the explanation.

hero (hero):

I hope you're not a math major. In math, you never make assumptions like that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pretty sure you should read the Code of Conduct

hero (hero):

If he didn't need an explanation, he wouldn't be here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

passive...you're not gonna win here, man, give it up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ask him

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not competing

hero (hero):

Passive, you're being very Active right now. You're not yourself today.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol...i see what you did there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perhaps its the 200mg caffeine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright lets not talk drugz here

hero (hero):

Reduce your dosage to about 5mg and see if that helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wouldn't talk about drugs if they were bad!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wut.

hero (hero):

I think he's trying to say drugs are good for you. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you are educated in that field then you would say they are good.

hero (hero):

I also think it depends on which drugs you're referring to.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

illegal drugs.

hero (hero):

Not all drugs are created equal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not all drugs are created.

hero (hero):

Yeah, some are destroyed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg im dying LOL "not all drugs are created equal" "not all drugs are created, some are destroyed" XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is the statement true right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah true

hero (hero):

You're kinda late @conad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol wow....yes @conad , if you've been following along

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he was on some drug i gave him

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea sorry i was off from the site

hero (hero):

I think @conad posted this question right before watching his favorite cartoon show.
