Can someone please explain to me how roster notation works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Roster notation is used when you want to include single numbers in a set, and not a range. You will use { and } to mark a set, with commas between your solutions. Example: {1,3,6,6.3} for the four numbers given.

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

Thanks! I have one more question, if that's alright?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure thing! Go ahead

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

Use roster notation to name the set of all letters in the word four.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{F,O,U,R}

roster notation is like santa claus ... hes making a list, and checking it twice ...

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

really? thats IT?? ok I feel slightly dumb right now, I thought it had to be in numbers >_< thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Food for thought, the last time I talked about roster notation was in 8th grade algebra class. I'm in college now and I have not talked about it since. :D

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

Woot woot no more roster notation!!!!
