Help needed with making two column proof from scratch for the attached.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Show that RQ is congruent to TU Show that SQ is congruent to SU Show that angle RQS is congruent to angle TUS Then you can say that the triangles are congruent by SAS Then RS is congruent to TS by CPCTC Then S is the midpoint of RT be definition of midpoint.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do understand everything you wrote (which is an accomplishment in itself, for me) but I don't understand the "technical" terms to put in the reason columns for all. RQ is congruent to TU - Given SQ is congruent to SU - Why? I understand it but no amount of research has provided me with the technical "definitions" for the Reason Column

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which I believe means I don't really understand it. :-)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

u familiar wid isosceles triangle ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes... a triangle with 2 equal sides.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good :) its base angles are also equal.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

|dw:1369992477102:dw|

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats an isosceles triangle cuz it has two ticks which means, those sides are congruent.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

|dw:1369992537422:dw|

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

in any isosceles triangle, base angles are also congruent. we need to use that in the proof.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok that makes sense. I am still so confused on the reasons to put for each statement. I know each statement is true based on a specific rule - but where do I find said rules? Or am I reading too much into it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am like 5th grade level geometry. Have never been able to grasp it.. so please forgive the elementary nature to my questions.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

since its a two column proof, lets put whats given the in first rows

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

1. RQ \(\cong \) TU 1. Given 2. \(\angle RQS \cong \angle TUS\) 2. Given

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thosw will be your first two rows

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got that. That's all I have though :-(

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

3. \(QS \cong SU\) 3. In isosceles triangle sides other than base are congruent

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

4. \(\triangle RQS \cong \triangle TUS\) 4. By SAS congruence

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

rest of the rows you try, il give a hand if u get stuck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks! Give me just a moment to fully follow your logic

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

take ur time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5. Line RS is congruent to Line TS 5. CPCTC Correct?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Correct. but its not a line, its a Line Segment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok got that. From there I can jump to: 6. S is the midpoint of Line Segment RT 6. Definition of Midpoint Correct?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

perfect !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Holy Moly I am glad that is over! I can't thank you enough for your help!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np :)
