When combining two independent clauses, a comma must be placed __________. a.both before and after the conjunction b.after the conjunction c.before the conjunction d.between the two indpendent clauses in place of the conjunction
While an independent clause may stand as a sentence by itself, it may also be combined with other independent clauses to form compound sentences. One way of connecting two independent clauses is by using a comma and one of the seven coordinating conjunctions: and, but, or, nor, for, yet, and so. A good way to remember these seven words is to use the word FANBOYS which contains one letter for each of the seven conjunctions: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So. e.g., My sister likes ice cream, but she doesn't eat it often. http://rwc.hunter.cuny.edu/reading-writing/on-line/clause.html

A couple of things you should know: you can't ask questions and just expect answers. people are here to help you as you learn just as @AnnaAdrew did in her answer. if someone takes the time to help you with your question and they do a good job, it's polite to hit the "best response' button and give them a medal. (i gave AnnaAdrew a medal and you can give her one also.) you can also click on their name to see their profile and click the 'become a fan' button. finally, when you have the answer, close your question, so that you'll be able to ask another question when you need to. if you have any questions about the site or procedures, look for people with purple A's - they are ambassadors and are here to help and welcome new users. if i can help you in any way, you can type in @bostonblue to any question or response and i will get notified, or you can send me a message directly.
