A magnetic domain is _____.
It is a region of uniform magnetization typically in a ferromagnetic material (iron,nickel) in which all the magnetic dipoles (tiny "magnets") point in the same direction.When such a material is left alone, all these regions are randomly oriented and the magnetic field inside and outside the material is zero. But when placed in a magnetic field, all these magnetic domains align in the direction of applied field and create a strong magnetic field both inside and outside the material. Even when the magnetic field is removed, the magnetic domains are unable to return exactly to their initial random state. Hence a little amount of field remains even after the removal of magnetic field and this is the principle of making permanent magnets.
