y=x^2+32x-120 Y=(x^2+32x+256)-120-256 Y=(x+16)^2-376 Why is the vertex (-16,-376) and not (16,-376)

OpenStudy (loser66):

nope, sorry, it's must be Y= (x+16)^2 -376 yours lack ^2 and it's not true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh. It asked for the vertex (-16,-376)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is -16 the x in the vertex

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

the x-co-ordinate of the vertex of a parabola is \[x = \frac{ -b }{ 2a }\]

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

The vertex form of a quadratic is: \[y=(x-h)^{2}+k\] where the coordinates of the vertex are (h,k). Loser 66 put your quadratic into vertex form 8 days ago. The minus sign before the h means you have to change the sign to get the proper value of the x-coordinate.
