Solve the inequality and type the solution in interval notation. No spaces! 11 ≤ 3x + 5 ≤ 23

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help!!!!

OpenStudy (jim766):

this is a compound inequality, really two inequalities \[11\le3x + 5 \] and \[3x + 5 \le23\] do you see where I got them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you added right

OpenStudy (jim766):

now just solve each this is a compound inequality, really two inequalities \[11\le3x + 5 \] -5 -5 \[6\le3x\] and \[3x + 5 \le23\] -5 -5 \[3x \le18\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aw my fault you subtracted 5 from both sides

OpenStudy (jim766):

you can also do it like this 11<= 3x + 5<=23 -5 - 5 -5 6 <= 3x <= 18 -- -- -- 3 3 3 2 <= x <= 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then i would combine those 3 for the answer?

OpenStudy (jim766):

I am not sure what they mean by interval notation but I think the way I wrote it at the end is this 2 <= x <= 6 it means x is greater than = to 2 and less than = to 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like this? (2,6)

OpenStudy (jim766):

no, that means just 2 and 6, it also means that one is x and one is y

OpenStudy (jim766):

like this [2, 6[

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aw ok i see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you
