How many units apart are the points (8, 11) and (-1, -1)?

sam (.sam.):

Given two points \((x_1, y_1)\) and \((x_2, y_2)\), the distance between these points is given by the formula: \[d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}\] Substitute and solve

It has been a long time since I have done this, can you explain it?

sam (.sam.):

Because the distance formula gives you the distance apart from 2 coordinates, so \[d=\sqrt{(-1-8)^2+((-1)-11)^2}\] do you understand it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not quite sorry:( it has been a long time
